Text And Still See Where You’re Going!

Dont you just hate it when your trying to text while walking but you have to keep looking up to see where you’re going? well heres the solution!
Road SMS, an Android app from the Samsung App Store that you can lets you peer through the camera of your smartphone so you can see what’s coming up while you happily texting. The app uses the built-in camera to project an image of what’s in front of you and put it as a background on the screen while you are texting. It looks like an exclusive for Samsung App Store that came pre-installed in the Galaxy S i9000, but this being an Android app. I’m not sure if people would really use Road SMS regularly, but it is still a cool idea!

NEW ‘Sim Card’ Works as a Phone on its own

I know i know, ive been slacking. Between doing a ton of shows and finishing off my album, ive been neglecting the blog that people have grown to really like. well no more! we’re back to posting DAILY, so fret not!

First off we have the modu! Its not exactly a sim card, more like the lightest mobile phone on earth thats the size of the average phone battery. the reason why i refer to it as a sim card however is that it has a wide range of interchangeable skins that are, in essence, ‘proper’ phones. they also have a skin thats a widescreen monitor to better view pictures and a few other gizmos at that (see video below)

Sound good? well heres the sting.

While most cases cost around £50 (yes its now in the uk), and the photo monitor costing £80. the actual modu costs a whopping £130.

it IS a cool bit of kit, but im not sure if im going to be an owner any time soon

loved this song so much i wanted to do a freestyle on it, but couldn’t find the instrumental anywhere, so i decided to make it myself with my weapon of choice, the american standard strat electric guitar!

This is the first in a line of free songs ill be putting out where i recreate the music as well as laying down my own lyrics on a bunch of songs, so look out for it!

The Invisible Computer Mouse

Love your mouse, but tired of having to cart it around everywhere? Well, then you might be interested in Mouseless, a project by Pranav Mistry of the MIT Fluid Interfaces Group. The project forgoes the physical device we think of as a mouse, replacing it with an infrared laser and webcam pair that allow you to mimic the gestures you would normally make with your button-adorned friend. It’s a pretty simple idea, really: the laser projects a line across your workspace, and the camera uses blob tracking to figure out where your hand is, and when you lift up a finger. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that they have released any source code- anyone want to try to re-build this using openFrameworks?

London Underground set to have Free wi-fi by 2012!

Pip pip and cheerio! The London Tubemaster General, Mayor Boris Johnson ESQ 1st Class Deceased is proposing that the tube lines in London have Wi-Fi coverage. While does not want cellular coverage – then they’d have to have quiet cars – but he does wish people to enjoy email, saying “I think people do want the facility of looking at their Blackberry, or whatever it happens to be.”

This will complement the free above-ground Wi-Fi that will appear in the city for the 2012 Olympics.

Self-Tying Shoe laces


Power Laces inspired by ‘Back to The Future II’, this project by Blake Bevi, who hooked a micro-controller on to the back of a pair of sneakers.
“Operation is quite simple- step into the shoe and a force sensor reads the pressure of your foot and activates two servo motors, which apply tension to the laces, tightening the shoe. A touch switch reverses the servos.
this project is less ‘Practical’ than ‘Proof of Concept’, but hopefully it’ll tide you over until Nike comes out with something more polished. ” Bevin writes.
