For some reason Ive always had this stigma looming over me suggesting that musically I want it all to come from me and me alone; the music, lyrics, production, the whole shebang. The reality however is that I’m someone that likes to get things done really quickly, so if I’m working on a project, I’m on in day and night, 24/7. In the past I would reach out to either a producer or writer and they’d be down to work, but just getting on the same page just seems to take SOOOOO long I end up finishing the whole thing before they even get stuck in! Now over the year I’ve been working on a MASSIVE three part project, the first part being my void ep, and riiiight when I’m at the last hurdle something amazing happened. yes, Ive actually been collaborating, the curse is broken.
Now while this isn’t the first collab I’ve done for this project, its the first I remembered to document because I’m one of those silly people that like to live life and experience sights with my own eyes instead of behind a screen. On wednesday I went to the studio of Newton Faulkner, the platinum selling- super talented singer songwriter and his equally talented brother Toby Faulkner who’s also a super songwriter.
Their studio is a crazy as they are and we made a big start on two songs in only a few hours which awesome. Newtons best known for being a guitarist but damn, the man can play almost everything, and he’s got some of the weirdest instruments I’ve ever seen, including this weird synth in a box thingy with wooden buttons. you can see a vid of him playing it over on my instagram so check that out (the insta link is in my banner)
So yeah, not a bad little sesh! i’ll be sure to do better and remember to document what I do with my days as it is pretty fun, thats probably what makes it so difficult in the first place now that I think about it!
First I was gonna wait till the new year before re-starting my blog. You know, new year new start and all that, but lets be honest, most of that new years resolution crap barely makes it till the end of the month, so i thought id have a better chance of sticking to it by kicking it off riiiiight now. So yeah, ze blogiddy has returned! As well as the usual gadgetry, anime, music, movies and general nerdy stuff that I used to blog, we’ve also grown the hell up andhave some proper ish to add!
Obviously being a musician, I posted about the key events and releases I put out here and there, as that was the initial purpose of the blog! But mixed with all the cool stuff I found it all got a bit fuzzy and random to say the least. Well not any more! My musics really starting to pick up (more on that later) and Ive had literally tonnes of people asking for recipes for some of the meals I whip up, so I decided to make the three solid corner stones of music, cooking & cool/nerdy shit more organised and keep rotating like a rotisserie chicken in this biatch.
If you’re new to the blog, this is doesn’t reeeally apply to you, but here, have a big warm welcome, first ones free. To my regular visitors and subscribers, sorry for the long ting, but I’m back, for good, I promise and a massive thank you for being patent with me. Alright, enough soppy shit, lets get back to it!
I know Ive been SUPER tight lipped about my new material as ‘Jovel’, even to the point where I havent publicly announced any shows and instead done a few ‘if you’re there then you’re there’ kind of apperances, but thats all coming to an end very very soon.
I cant go into to much detail (some of it I still dont know myself, But I have been confirmed to play Glastonbury this year! Still not sure what day or stage, but I do know that George Ezra and a few others are on the same stage as me!
Im really looking forward to present this new sound to you all, and I cant wait to hear what you all think, Its quite a massive journey from anything Ive even thought of doing before!
Im playing this months Souterrain Live Gig @ the strongrooms (address Below.) The event is free free free and it starts at 7:30. Come on down and have a couple of jagerbombs with me. Oh and watch me play too, that’d be good. for more details click Here
On The 20th Of June I played My first ever live set for the Jovel project @ the Silver Bullet. I was surprising more nervous than any of my other previous shows as random impulse, but for good reason: instead of being backed by my band, this new project is just me, by myself, alone, and that means one teeny mistake and its ALL on you. secondly its with an acoustic, which I am completely new to using (I even first learned guitar on an electric) and thirdly: these songs have singing elements to them, and with the only backing ive got to go by being and a single acoustic guitar, i was BRICKING it.
Despite all that though show went pretty good and the crowd seemed to really enjoy it, One person so much he asked me to sign his head!
So all in all it was a great way to shake off the ‘first gig’ nerves. On to the next one!
My brand new song ‘Poppin’ molly is up on soundcloud NOW. This is the third song from my forthcoming EP ‘G.S.D’
Produced by superproducer Semothy Jones (plan b, professor green, lily allen etc) & its his 1ST song out since hes come off his long hiatus. check it out and let me know what you think with a comment or something.
Remember I release a FULL song each and every Monday @ 7pm on my Soundcloud, so be sure to follow me on there.
